Electroporation effect of ZnO nanoarrays under low voltage for water disinfection

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract It is quite necessary to develop a safe and efficient technique for disinfection of drinking water avoid waterborne pathogens infectious diseases. Herein, ZnO nanoarray electrodes with different sizes were investigated low-voltage high-efficiency electroporation disinfection. The results indicated that the nano-pyramid small tip width proper length exhibited over 99.9% efficiency against Escherichia coli under 1 V flow rate 10 mL/min (contact time 1.2 s). suitable size was optimized by establishing correlation between four kinds nanoarrays their disinfection, which can guide preparation next-generation electroporation-disinfecting electrodes.

Batch solar disinfection (SODIS) inactivation kinetics are reported for suspensions in water of Campylobacter jejuni, Yersinia enterocolitica, enteropathogenic Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and endospores of Bacillus subtilis, exposed to strong natural sunlight in Spain and Bolivia. The exposure time required for complete inactivation (at least 4-log-unit reduction and below the...

Effect of Cell Size and Shape on Electric Field Threshold and Critical Transmembrane Voltage for Electroporation

Introduction:  Electroporation  is  a  technique  for  increasing  the  permeability  of  the  cell  membrane  to  otherwise  non-permeate  molecules  due  to  an  external  electric  field.  This  permeability  enhancement  is  detectable if the induced transmembrane voltage becomes greater than a critical value which depends on the  pulse  strength  threshold.  In  this  study,  the  variabil...

Finite Element Analysis of Tissue Conductivity during High-frequency and Low-voltage Irreversible Electroporation

Introduction: Irreversible electroporation (IRE) is a process in which the membrane of the cancer cells are irreversibly damaged with the use of high-intensity electric pulses, which in turn leads to cell death. The IRE is a non-thermal way to ablate the cancer cells. This process relies on the distribution of the electric field, which affects the pulse amplitude, width, and electrical conducti...

Conducting nanosponge electroporation for affordable and high-efficiency disinfection of bacteria and viruses in water.

High-efficiency, affordable, and low energy water disinfection methods are in great need to prevent diarrheal illness, which is one of the top five leading causes of death over the world. Traditional water disinfection methods have drawbacks including carcinogenic disinfection byproducts formation, energy and time intensiveness, and pathogen recovery. Here, we report an innovative method that a...
